I built 3rd Space to have information gaps. It creates allure (I love allure). I’ve always been enamored by mystic, secrets, and how one discovers them. If it tells you anything about me, I grew up designing (subpar) haunted houses in my backyard every October.

Having you subscribe to this newsletter feels like your bid of trust. I’m flattered and very grateful for it. The thought of you not understanding what 3rd Space does doesn’t sit well with me. So I’m gonna tell you.

The art we are creating is not food, music, design, or anything you may perceive it to be online. Honestly, none of those things are world-class on our end.

But our guests are.

We are world-class at curating people. Everyone says that, I know. I’ve been hesitant to acknowledge it, but after this year’s 30u30 class came out and 3rd Space beat Forbes on almost every New Yorker listed, I feel pretty confident saying what it is we excel at.

Here’s how I curate:

I find people who intersect a trifecta of attributes:

  1. People who boast a phenomenal body of work

  2. People who are curious, warm, and generous with their time

  3. People who boast an eccentric physical presence. I’m obsessed with people who add character to the world.

To call what we do a people gallery would be accurate, but the phrase has been overused by those who do it poorly. So we avoid it.

For those we bring in, the art of 3rd Space is you, the guest. You are the art, just as every person you speak to is art. The quick friendship, inspiration, awe, and joy from your conversations, that is our art realized.

jobs we think are interesting

Technical Product Designer @Silence Please

Silence Please is the coolest venue in all of Manhattan. It’s entirely unassuming. A quaint spot (with no branding) perched on a second-floor walk-up in Bowery. An unmarked door next to a very average boba shop (I’ve tried it). Walk inside and find a long table set for 16, a record shop, and a matcha café. The real appeal is the speakers, beautifully designed and staged around the room. The main wall of the space has a projector that frames a DJ or speaker beautifully between two 4-foot speakers. They come in all colors and sizes and accomplish what most try to with mid-century modern design.

The speakers are their business model. They want someone to build them. Being affiliated with the space in any capacity will guarantee you access to great people.

Creative Director @ a16z New Media

Andreessen Horowitz is the GOAT of venture and investing. They’re an institution and a centennial empire. Their newest thesis is that storytellers will increase in value as AI continues growing. So they’ve built a new media team to give the very best branding and storytelling advice to startups who are otherwise focused on building. They’re also on the hunt for a video essay producer and an exec producer with a deep talent network. They want someone with agency experience but with a fascination for tech. If that’s you, they’ll pay you a multiple of the salary you make now (no exaggeration). Take your creative skill set and move to venture and tech. Your pockets will thank you.

Keith Herron is hiring an operations intern

Keith was a highlight of ours for Vol 15. He’s a filmmaker, director, creative director, and visionary. Most notably, he's known for his clothing brand Advisry. His work isn’t commercial. It’s why I love it. If you see trends as pendulums, he’s someone to watch. Mainstream fashion today is very Buck Mason, Theory; sharp, clean, and unoffensive. I think when it swings back to playful and eccentric, commercial will be redefined and Keith will be positioned to take over. He’s won awards from the CFDA, has relationships with big players across Apple Music, Adidas, and more. He works out of his office and studio at WSA in FiDi and splits time between NYC and LA. If you want to break into fashion and creative direction, start with operations under Keith, and I’m sure you can do whatever excites you after. Keith Herron is one of those guys.

people to watch

India Bradley, 27 (vol 20)

Most eccentric personality I’ve ever met, India is the first Black woman to perform as a lead in The Nutcracker as a part of NYC’s ballet. She’s also the first Black woman to be promoted to soloist in the NYC Ballet. India performs in 250 shows per year. Her mission is to be a visual for young girls who look like her, showing them they can have a future in ballet. 2026 has her breakthrough in fashion on the way (she was also awarded Vogue’s 55 Best Dressed). We adore her.

Luis Ocampo, 26 (vol 17)

Grew up as a classically trained opera singer touring with the Harry Potter live tour, started an a cappella group in college, then started a hackathon series and transitioned to tech. He joined the founding team of Partiful and leads everything external; marketing, partnerships, activations, all of it. Luis is the engine behind Partiful’s growth. Know his name.

Tina Tarighian, 24 (vol 21)

We love the “youngest to” log line. We REALLY love Tina. Formerly the nation’s number 1 debate kid, now working full-time as Google’s youngest senior creative technologist at their highly competitive Creative Lab. She famously built a live demo for 5 million people, opening the stage for Google’s CEO at 23. Last year, the New Museum selected her as the youngest participant in their incubator program for contemporary art and social infrastructure. She’s since won an international creative award for web installs. She also makes short-form content on creative technology. We’re fans.

Teya Kepila, 25 (vol 21)

One of the most aesthetically pleasing accounts on IG, at 400k she’s built an audience by discussing natural beauty. Sense of self, body hair, her work, wellness—she’s great. A recent 30u30 honoree, Teya’s earned her prowess from hosting ceramics ceremonies. You read it right. She helps people make pieces that they can connect with throughout their day. Her work’s been shown in galleries across the Northeast, and most recently she did a collab with Leon’s Bagels, making 50 cups and giving all profits to One Love Community Fridge. Le Mer listed her as a featured artist for Women’s History Month for a reason.

Isaac Burns, 27 (vol 21)

Got his start as a teenager producing for Mac Miller and has since produced for Clairo and Omar Apollo. He’s a musical prodigy. Plays bass, trumpet, keys, guitar… and writes. He’s obsessed with great people in music and leverages his touring company, Underscore Laboratories, to bring them together to produce great live shows and experiences. He has a 10-person team spread across NY, LA, and Chicago.

people you should hire

Joe Minde-Berman, 23, (our team)

2025 NYU Clive Davis grad (music school), now our coveted Mr. Do-It-All producer. Joe’s balancing three hospitality gigs on top of his work with 3rd Space. He will outwork anyone and say yes to anything. Joe thrives at the intersection of community building and production. Whoever lands him full-time is someone we will envy (we’re not letting him leave us, you’ll have to share him).

Jalen Daniels, 26 (vol 19)

A Harvard 2021 grad and the youngest member of their NY Board of Trustees. Jalen is ex-McKinsey, former CoS at an art startup where she led a raise in under a month. Jalen grew up a classical ballerina (danced for the Supreme Court, White House, etc.—she’s legit). Mentored under the legendary Dr. Cornel West (former presidential candidate), now writing a book. She also hosts intellectual salons across Manhattan.

She’s on the market, looking for work in strategy or anything that intersects culture and intellect. The stove is hot!!

Henry Kornaros, 26 (vol 21)

I’ve found that the wizards of short-form success often work behind the scenes. Henry is the puppet master of Trackstar (1B+ views) and Public Opinion (200M+ views). He’s worked with Jimmy Fallon, Kamala Harris, Olivia Rodrigo, and more. Photographer and director by trade, his company creates short-form shows for brands that position them as media companies. It’s working. Another recent 30u30 honoree, Henry got his public start on the team that launched Windows on TikTok (which was later awarded Best Brand Launch by Ad Age).

I know a lot of friends are looking for short-form strategy. Reply back and I’ll make an intro. Henry is golden.

closing note

You probably found us through Instagram. It’s all ominous and loosely explained over there, we know. To add some color, we’re a dinner series to connect exceptional (but low ego) young people. Pretty simple. We talk to every guest on the phone via a *referral system. We do our best to help as many people as we can by expanding their networks.

*We follow all our past guests. if you know someone who’s been, ask them about us.

Fondly,

Jake
